The East Khasi Hills Police have successfully thwarted a robbery attempt and arrested four individuals connected to the theft of TMT bars. Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger provided details on Monday, stating that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed on August 9th by Deibormi Mukhim and Robert Shadap.
They reported that their vehicle, a 12-wheeler truck with registration number NL-01-K-6051, loaded with TMT bars, was parked at the Mawryngkneng bypass when four unknown persons, armed with a knife, entered their truck around 8:50 PM. The assailants forcibly dragged them into an Alto 800 vehicle without a registration number. Along with another truck driver (vehicle registration number ML-05-T-3858), they were detained overnight and released the following morning at Pynursla.
Upon receiving the report, the police immediately initiated an investigation. However, it was later discovered that Deibormi Mukhim and Robert Shadap had orchestrated the unloading of the TMT bars at Pommura, transferring the materials into another truck with registration number ML-05-T-3858. The stolen TMT bars, totaling approximately 18.5 tons and valued between Rs. 9.5 and 10 lakhs, were recovered from Laitkyrhong and Jongksha villages.
Additionally, the 12-wheeler truck initially reported missing was recovered from Mukhla village in West Jaintia Hills, while the truck used in the crime was seized from 7th Mile Baniun, Upper Shillong.
A criminal case has been registered under Mawryngkneng Police Station Case No. 24 (8) 2024 U/s 309 (4)/137 (2) BNS. The four individuals arrested in connection with the case are:
1. Deibormi Mukhim – 40 years
2. Robert Shadap – 25 years
3. Babiangbor Mylliem – 38 years
4. Shopstarwell Jana – 35 years
