Days before the Assembly election in Meghalaya, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Phagu Chauhan, Governor of Bihar as the new Governor of Meghalaya.
The former BJP leader and six times MLA from Uttar Pradesh Phagu Chauhan has become the new Governor in poll bound Meghalaya.
This reshuffle came just 15 days before Meghalaya elections. The state will go for polls on February 27.
Before becoming Governor, Chauhan was an active politician.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election, Chauhan contested as Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Ghosi and defeated his close contestant Abbas Ansari from Bahujan Samaj Party. Infact, he won from this seat six times, representing various parties.
His son Ram Vilas Chauhan is also an active politician and BJP legislator from Madhuban seat.
Brig (Dr) B.D. Mishra (Retd), Governor of Arunachal Pradesh with additional charge of Meghalaya is now appointed as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.
