“Till now six fire emergency vehicles rush to the spot,” Police said.

In this incident, important case files, court records, documents, computers and furniture were burnt to flames.

Many advocates kept their valuable case files and records in the lockers at the bar association, all these case files are now gutted in the fire.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma too visited the spot and took stock of the situation. Talking to Mediaperson, Chief Minister Sangma said although there was no casualty, but, there will be loss documents and the infrastructure is damaged.

“We are yet to determine the exact reason but it seems it’s the electrical conditions that led to the fire out here. It is a very unfortunate incident, we are relieved that there is no loss of life and no casualty was there,” the Chief Minister said.

“The fact that the infrastructure is damaged means that there will be loss of documents, but we are doing our best to minimise the damage, we are all here on site, monitoring the situation so that there is no further damage,” He added, saying there is a great loss.

The 111 year old Assam type structure of the Shillong bar association was constructed in 1913.
