Five arrested person in Dhankheti case sent to judicial custody: Police

East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, stated on Monday that all five individuals arrested in connection with the petrol bomb attack at the statue of JN Bawri in front of Bawri Mansion, Dhankheti, Shillong, are sent to  judicial custody by a local court.

“In this connection five persons were yesterday and were sent to the court. As per the court order they are sent to five days judicial custody,” Nongtnger

The attack occurred early Sunday morning, around 4:00 AM, when unknown miscreants allegedly threw petrol bombs at the statue. Fortunately, the statue did not sustain significant damage, as the bottle scattered upon impact.

The miscreants reportedly targeted an ATM booth in the Dhankheti area, pelting it with stones. Police have already begun their investigation into the matter, and an FIR has been lodged at the Laitumkhrah police station. Nongtnger mentioned that the investigating officers are making substantial efforts to determine the motive behind the attack in that specific area.

“The case is still under investigation and I can’t say what was the reason but the IO is making a good effort to establish the motive and reason,” he added.
