Meghalaya Police on Thursday night apprehended five Bangladeshi Nationals near KGBV School in Zikzak. According to police on November 21, 2024, at around 11:42 PM, Police conducted a vehicle-checking operation on State Highway 12 near KGBV School in Zikzak led to the interception of a Bolero Pik-up vehicle bearing registration number AS-34C-0613.
The vehicle, driven by 40-year-old Md. Nur Hussain, a resident of Nandia village in South Salmara district, Assam, was traveling from Gopinathkilla towards Hatsingimari.

Upon inspection, five occupants were found in the vehicle, suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals. The matter was promptly reported to higher authorities, and the vehicle, along with its occupants, was brought to Zikzak Police Post for verification.
During the investigation, several items were recovered, including five Aadhaar cards verified as invalid through the mAadhaar app, suspected to be forged, two mobile phones with an Indian Airtel SIM card, and Bangladeshi-origin items such as nasal drops and Lorix cream. The recovered items were seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the individuals had illegally crossed into Indian territory by breaching the Indo-Bangladesh border near Baghmara in South Garo Hills. They disclosed plans to travel to Kolkata via Hatsingimari to work as laborers. The individuals were identified as Md. Jahangir Ali (21), Md. Jaidul Islam (30), Md. Durul Ali (37), Md. Maruf Ali (19), and Md. Babu Sheikh (22), all hailing from Char Sikhalipur village in the Chapai Nawabganj district of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
The investigation confirmed that the five individuals had entered India without valid documents, and appropriate legal action is being initiated against them.
