Phulbari MLA and cabinet Minister AT Mondal on Thursday visited Chibinang region where due to heavy rainfall there is a flash flood that occurred along the Rongai River, that is running above the danger level.
As many as 20 villages were affected. Mondal also visited the affected villages and took stock of the situation.
There were reports of soil erosion on the bank of the Rongai River and the retaining wall of some of the construction also collapsed. Although the water level receded in some areas, Chibinang – Dadenggre road also submerged.
It may be mentioned that recently Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma visited the flood hit areas in the plain belt region of Garo Hills.
Heavy rains that lashed the State since last month till date have caused widespread destruction and triggered landslides at many placesĀ and flash floods.
Meghalaya has recorded 44 per cent excess rainfall since June 1, triggering widespread landslides, flash floods, and significant infrastructure damage across the State.
