The “wait” of the people of Garo Hills to see the commissioning of the 22.5 MW Ganol Hydro Electric Project is going to a little longer as the Meghalaya power Minister said the commission of the project is likely to be by May 2022.
Power Minister James Sangma said, “I am looking optimistically at the commissioning of the Ganol project by sometime in May 2022, that is we are optimistically looking at that.”
“We are sincere and serious about the completion of the Ganol project, it is a matter of great pride for Garo Hills, and also it will address a lot of issues with regard to the problem of power in Garo Hills,” Sangma said.
The work for the 22.5 megawatts Ganol small hydro project stage-I in Garo Hills is monitored constantly by the high power committee chaired by Chief Secretary MS Rao, Last year the state cabinet approved Rs 507.71 crore as a revised cost estimate for completing the pending power project.
The project has encountered several delays since it was conceived way back in 2006. After completion, it will boost the power generation of Meghalaya.
