Visibly annoyed with the State Government for its failure to release the pending four months’ salaries, the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has threatened to stop regular classes as well as their other duties if their four months’ pending salaries are not released immediately, even threatens to go for an indefinite hunger strike all over the State within a couple of days before Christmas.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, President of the association Labingstone G. Momin said “On behalf of all aggrieved SSA Teachers of Meghalaya entreat our competent authorities to clear all our pending salaries at once with immediate effect else we may have no any other option rather than to go for an indefinite hunger strike all over the State within a couple of days before Christmas.”
Momin further said, “We the aggrieved SSA Teachers are quite unhappy over the insensitivity of the State Government to our demands.
“Despite a long wait our demands are not met by the State Government till date, we are tired of submitting memorandums and frequent petitions to the state Government concerning our salary issues. However, the State Government did not bother to address our problems,” he added.
The teachers in the statement appealed to the government to release the pending dues immediately while at the same time warning that they would be left with no other option but to stop work and stage an indefinite stir all over the state before Christmas if their plea was ignored.
Benabith Ch. Marak, General Secretary of the Association said “If our demands are not met by the State Government we the aggrieved SSA Teachers would be an empty stomach and affect our normal life. We cannot discharge our regular duties as per the order of the State Government with an empty stomach.”
