Meghalaya Government is likely to hold the Garo Hills Autonomous District council poll before April 16.
Informing about this, District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the state government will try to hold the elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) before the month of April.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Rymbui said the administrator’s rule imposed in the GHADC will be over by April 16.
“So before that, the election has to be held except if there are some extraordinary circumstances or situations which we cannot help,” he said.
The GHADC was brought under the administrator’s rule in October last year after the state government’s decision to postpone the election due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tenure of the present House has expired on October 18, 2020. It may be mentioned here that the election to the GHADC was held on October 12, 2015, and counting on October 15, 2015.
