Shillong, Dec 2: Amid growing speculation about Dr. Mukul Sangma’s political trajectory, National People’s Party (NPP) leader and cabinet minister Rakkam A Sangma has categorically dismissed the likelihood of the former Meghalaya Chief Minister returning to the Congress. Drawing parallels with the political journeys of stalwarts like Captain Williamson Sangma and the late P.A. Sangma, the NPP leader, expressed confidence that Dr. Sangma would continue to forge his path forward.
“Good leaders never go back to the old house. Prominent leaders, future leaders, build their new house,” the minister remarked, emphasizing the trend of prominent figures creating independent political legacies. “Captain Williamson Sangma never went back to APHLC, and P.A. Sangma never returned to Congress. Leaders stand on their own and chart their future.”
Referring to Dr. Sangma’s current role as a leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the minister acknowledged his resilience and the party’s growing presence in Meghalaya. “Sir Mukul is a leader of the TMC. They fought well in the Gambegre by-election, standing second, and have shown significant support in the constituency. The TMC’s presence is noteworthy. Ultimately, it is for him to decide his course,” the minister added.
As speculation continues around Dr. Mukul Sangma’s next political move, the political pundits underscores his influence as a key player in Meghalaya’s political landscape.
