The Transport Department issued a notification on Thursday permitting only vehicles with a height of up to 2.8 meters to ply over the Umiam Bridge.
In a notification issued by the Transport Department, Commissioner & Secretary Sanjay Goyal said, “Only Single axle vehicles with gross weight (including the load) not beyond 9 (nine) metric tons are allowed to ply on the bridge.”
The order, issued under Section 113 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1998, and Rule 95 of the Central Motor Rules, 1989, pertains to the reopening of the Umiam Dam Bridge for vehicular traffic, considering the bridge’s load limit and the need for its safety and protection. The order is effective immediately.
