Govt. appointed an officer on special duty (OSD) to improve billing efficiency: James

Minister in-charge Power James K Sangma on Thursday said the government has appointed an officer on special duty (OSD) to improve the billing efficiency and bring down the aggregate technical & commercial (A&TC) losses in Garo Hills region.

Replying to a query raised by Rangsakona legislator Zenith Sangma in the Assembly, James said that the billing efficiency in Garo Hills is very poor compared to Khasi Hills.

He said that billing efficiency of Chokpot and Baghmara in South Garo Hills was only at 12.86 percent and 12.12 percent respectively whereas East Khasi Hills it is at 89.60 percent.

Similarly, the A&TC losses in East Garo Hills is at 83.91 percent and West Garo Hills at 61.50 percent while it was very low in Shillong at only 12.54 percent

“Now, in such a scenario it was felt the need to put special focus to bring up the billing efficiency and bring down A&RC losses (in Garo Hills). Therefore, a call was taken to have an officer…to compile and submit monthly report,” the minister said.

Earlier, James informed that in addition to the existing post of Chief Engineer (Distribution) Western Zone, MePDCL, Tura, the post of OSD (Revenue Monitoring) Western Zone in the rank of Chief Engineer (Electrical) was created.

According to him, the OSD is supported by the revenue team of the MePDCL.
