Govt asks police to ascertain genuineness of threat issued by Lawei Ba Phyrnai

The state police have been asked to ascertain the genuineness of the threat issued by a “terror outfit” in social media.

“We have already asked the police department to trace it out and find out whether the threat circulated through the social media is genuine and whether it is true or not – and now the police are on the job,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Monday.

The “terror outfit” known as Lawei Ba Phyrnai has identified itself as a group of 37 unemployed youth and has threatened to plant series of bomb attacks targeting educational institutions in Shillong.

Later, the group further revealed that the Lawei ba Phyrnai was originally an educational society before members and sponsors laid down their pens in exchange for AK-47s.
