SHILLONG, FEB 22: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that Rs 2.13 crore has been incurred by the government for conducting 23 programmes at Taj Vivanta and JW Courtyard.
Of this, Rs 62.47 lakh was spent for the G-20 summit, Sangma said in his reply to a question raised by Mawkynrew MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh.
When asked on the need of holding government programmes in such luxurious hotels, the CM said, “Governemnt has to host programmes, it is a normal process. It is a matter of pride that we could host the G-20 summit, it is nothing out of the ordinary as we can showcase and provide proper service to delegates so that they go back with good memories.”
He said depending on the programme, the government chooses a location.
According to him, almost 80-85% of the staff in the two hotels are local people.
