Govt seeks report on arrest of East Garo Hills DTO by Assam police: Dhar

Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Monday said he is seeking a report on the arrest of the East Garo Hills District Transport Officer by the Assam police.

Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “I have to wait for the report. It will not be appropriate for me to say anything.”

“I am yet to get the exact information on the incident. Let me get the information first on what has happened so I will be able to inform you,” he said.

Dhar admitted that there is a need to ensure transparency in the functioning of the transport offices in the state.

“Obviously everything should be transparent and if there is anything irregular and only when we get a complaint we can take action accordingly.”

On Sunday, DTO of East Garo Hills, Genekelly G Momin was arrested by Assam police for his involvement in the falsification of documents.

With regards to the relocation of Harijans from Them Iew Mawlong, Dhar informed that a meeting will be convened next week to discuss the issue.

“Next week, we will have to meet again because till today we haven’t received any order from the Court on the matter,” he said.

He said there is nothing to worry as the government will take its own course of action on the matter.
