With traffic snarls continues to affect the daily commuters in the city, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday said the state Government is studying the feasibility of using school buses to ferry students to school .
Talking to reporters in Shillong, Rymbui said, “We don’t want to buy buses when there is no place to park and will be a waste of public money.”
Stating that the idea of introducing school buses is to ease the traffic congestion in the city, he said this will also help the commuters to move.
It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the Meghalaya High Court directed the state government to draw up plans for easing the traffic congestion in Shillong.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice W Diengdoh said one of the measures is to ensure more school buses, particularly for the schools concentrated in the Laitumkhrah area, adding that, however, a low level of response has been received to the proposal.
