SHILLONG, AUG 8: Addressing the ongoing concerns raised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) regarding the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), MDA 2 spokesperson and Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the state government would first seek a detailed report from the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms, given that the MPSC is an autonomous body. This report will then be reviewed by the Chief Minister, who will decide whether the matter should be brought before the cabinet for further discussion.
Speaking to Mediapersons in Shillong, Lyngdoh said that nepotism should not be encouraged at any level.
“We will first seek a report since it is an autonomous body. We will first seek a report from the department concerned and this report will then come handy for the chief minister, who will then decide whether it will be placed before the cabinet and I am sure we will have a very fruitful and productive discussion and arrive at a decision that will ensure that there is no iota of doubt left in the minds of people were fair play and transparency is concerned,” the Minister said.
He acknowledged the concerns raised by the KSU and assured that the government would take these objections seriously.
Speaking about the protest staged by KSU against MPSC, Lyngdoh said, “Without any shade of doubt, we should not encourage nepotism at any level and I understand that the KSU has raised certain objections, certain queries about the alleged instances of nepotism, government will certainly be on the side of justice and fair play and we will take that to its logical end.”
