SHILLONG, SEP 25: A delegation of the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) after a meeting with the chief secretary DP Wahlang on Wednesday expressed confidence that the issue concerning the 342 families from Them Iew Mawlong will soon be resolved before implementation of the government’s decision to relocate them.

“We are not here to create any trouble. We are here to help the government to resolve the problem in an amicable and proper manner,” he said. He said that the delegation were not fully satisfied and that is why they are raising some concerns and these are still under discussion so that things can be iron out in order to come up with good solution.
“Subsequent to that, the deputy chief minister had already said that the matter now left to be dealt by chief secretary and that is why we are meeting the chief secretary now and we are waiting for an invitation from the government,” he said.
Asked, the SGPC activist refused to disclose the outcome of the meeting. He said, “The meeting is part of the ongoing discussion. We have presented our views and it is still at an infant stage. We cannot share anything with the media at this stage.”
