HITO conducts awareness programme on electoral transparency

The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Monday conducted an awareness programme and car rally to highlight the importance of electoral transparency in the upcoming assembly elections, to be held on February 27.

 

The car rally saw hundreds of HITO members and the public took part from Lad Smit via Laitkor, Madanriting, Fire Brigade Point, St Edmund’s School, Dhankheti and Civil Hospital Point and concluded at Motphran.

 

Speaking during the awareness program at Motphran, president of HITO Donbok Dkhar stated that since the election is near, it is important for the organization as a responsible pressure group to come out and educate and remind the public on the failure of the state government in the last five years.

 

Dkhar in his speech had stressed on the importance of electing a quality representative who will work for the betterment of the people as a whole once he/she is elected to the state assembly.

“As a responsible pressure group, we have not come to politicize any issue but we have come to speak and create awareness among the public to not be misled by any candidates or political parties and to vote righteously in order to have a strong government post the election” said Dkhar.

 

Dkhar in his speech condemned the incumbent government for not able to fulfill the demands of the people of Meghalaya especially for the moved to come out with Gaming Act and casinos and for not able to persuade the central government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and recognition of Khasi language in the eight scheduled of the constitution.

 

“We are not canvassing for any candidates or political parties and we appealed to the general public and everyone to think over many times before exercising our right to vote as we do not want to suffer again for another five years” he added.
