HITO seeks clarification from Home Minister as to why some police officers have been in same district for more than 15 yrs

Shillong, Feb 12: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) today demand from deputy chief minister in-charge of home (Police) department to Prestone Tynsong to clarify as to why some officers in the Home (Police) department have been in the same District for more than 15 years.

Speaking to media persons, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said that the organization had filed an RTI on 20 September 2022 but was met with unsatisfactory replies with regards to the transfer of police personnel and officers.

Dkhar alleged that the unsatisfactory replies of the RTI received from the department exposed the intention to cover up the glaring lapses.

He claimed that as per section 12 the Meghalaya Police Act 2010 states the term of office of key police functionaries which includes Director General of Police, Addl Director General of Police, Law and Order, Inspectors General of Police, Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police, District Superintendents of Police, Sub-Divisional Police Officers, Circle Inspector or Officer-in-Charge of Police Station shall have a minimum tenure of two years.

“We find that there are so many officials presently in the Home (Police) department who are in violation of the Act 2010 and lead to serious conflict of interest. Hence we strongly urge that this matter be addressed as we find some few selected favorite officials who are in the same post for more than 15 years by being transferred from units and to intra-units only in Shillong City and East Khasi Hills District and not to other districts” alleged Dkhar.

In this regard, Dkhar demanded from the deputy chief minister for clarity on Transfer of Police & Posting Tenure of police personnel and officials in the Home (Police) department so as to ensure fair and transparent administration in the service to the citizens of the state.
