HITO Storms MSPCB Office in Shillong to Oppose Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd’s Public Meeting

SHILLONG, OCT 22: Shouting slogans, the members of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) today stormed the office of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) Shillong to opposed the public meeting of the Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd which was held on 8 October at Wahiajer village East Jaintia Hills.

It may be noted that on 8 October, a public rally was held by Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd at Wahiajer village but several NGOs alleged that they were not allowed to take part in the hearing.

The public hearing was held for the establishment of the Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd at Wahiajer.

It was also seen that several NGOs including KSU, FKJGP, HYC and HITO were blocked by the volunteers of Wahiajer village and those supporting Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd to attend the public hearing.

Speaking to media persons, HITO President Donbok Dkhar said that the rally at the MSPCB office was to demand another public hearing of Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd.

Dkhar said that the organization has given 10 days’ notice to the MSPCP to have another public hearing and give a chance to everyone to express their view on the purpose of the Meghatop Cement Pvt Ltd to set up cement plant Wahiajer.

“If the MSPCB does not do anything within this period, HITO is ready to lodge a complaint to the Meghalaya High Court” said Dkhar.
