SHILLONG, JULY 11: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Thursday accused the KHADC chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem for allegedly politically blackmailing the Syiem of Sohra by reopening of the notification to declassify Majai as a “raid”.
In a statement, HNLC general secretary cum publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “The reopening of the notification to declassify Majai as a “raid” is a clear indication that the Syiem of Sohra was politically blackmailed by the CEM.”
“The demand by the CEM to provide all the original land documents of non-tribals in Majai seems more like a political joke. Instead of focusing solely on Majai, it would be fair to also ask for the land documents of non-tribals in Ichamati,” he said.
Nongtraw said that the CEM should also ask others Hima and Syiem to submit the land documents of non-tribals residing on tribal land, and if necessary, dare to evict them all. By doing so, we will discover the true extent of your devotion to Jaidbynriew.
“Let’s demonstrate to the people of Meghalaya that the district council represents a government of law, not a government of men. The failure of the district council, as well as the state government, to address the themmetor issue, has left it unresolved,” he said.
He further said that question arises whether the declassification of Majai as a raid will have repercussions on non-tribal settlers. “Will they be compelled to vacate Majai? It’s intriguing why non-tribals chose to celebrate with fireworks and crackers upon the district council’s announcement of the revival of this notification?”
Nongtraw further alleged that when the Syiem refused to give a large share to the CEM, an issue was created to blackmail the Syiem Sohra.
“Pyniaid uses his own manager and some collectors to misuse his power as the CEM. He collects money personally from various sources. I think Pynshngain Syiem, the Deputy CEM, is aware of this while the rest of the Executive Council (EC) is unaware. Currently, Majai serves as the center of business in East Khasi Hills and is a target for some criminal politicians to exploit. The CEM’s question about who loves their Jaidbynriew more, him or someone else, raises an interesting point.
Pyniaid Syiem is merely a Johnny-come-lately who recently emerged from the shadow of his father’s Timber mill, knowing next to nothing about politics,” he said.
Stating that HNLC have been fighting for the liberation of the people and the salvation of the Hynniewtrep nations for decades, Nongtraw said, “You are just like Captain William A Sangma and Indira Gandhi, who just discovered Meghalaya yesterday.
The term ‘ieid Jaidbynriew’ has been misused as much as the misused of law by these corrupt politicians. Our Jaidbynriew have suffered injustices at the hands of the state and central government.”
