Home Minister’s convoy hits biker, one died


One biker died while the pillion rider sustains serious injury after a police vehicle from Home Minister’s Carcade collided with the bike coming from the opposite direction.

Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui was on his way to Williamnagar from Shillong for a high level meeting relating to law and order on Thursday, the accident occurred at around 1:30 pm, in Khera, on the Songsak road.

East Garo Hills SP Bruno A Sangma told Meghalaya News 24 that the deceased has been identified as Joakim Marak (45 years) hailing from Dimit Rongtatgittim of Dobu village in east Garo Hills.

Asked, he has the carcade was maintain certain speed and one of the pilot police gypsy vehicles belonging to East Garo Hills District Executive force (DEF) escorting the home minister at the back of the convoy rammed straight on with the motorcyclist who was going from Williamnagar side towards Songsak.

“Immediate assistance to the family of the victim is being provided and necessary action will follow depending on the police report enquiry. We have already registered a case,” Sangma informed.
