HSPDP to meet Garo Hills leaders soon to discuss about creation of separate states

The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to soon meet leaders in Garo Hills for discussion on the long pending demand for creation of separate states for the Khasi and Garo people.

“We want to meet the leaders of the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) to discuss the issue and then take a call before we move this with the government of India,” HSPDP president KP Pangniang told reporters on Monday.

The demand for creation of a separate Khasi state was championed by the founder of the HSPDP (L) Hoping Stone Lyngdoh.

He said the meeting will be held very soon in Garo Hills. The HSPDP president also recalled that similar steps were also taken during the tenure of the late leaders HS Lyngdoh and Clifford Marak. “They had also submitted a joint petition before the government of India on the issue,” he said.

Pangniang said the party is also preparing to highlight the importance of the demand by organizing public awareness programmes.
