HYC president appears before IO Sadar Police Station

SHILLONG, MAY 28: President of Hynniewtrep Youth Council Roy Kupar Synrem on Tuesday appeared before the investigation officer (IO) at Sadar police station in connection with the case registered against carrying of unlawful eviction drive at Lum Survey on May 23.

Speaking to reporters,  Synrem said, “We have nothing to say against the police department but we along with the people have seen the condition of the place at Lum Survey. We have done our duty and today I have come to appear before the Sadar police station (because we have decided) that we will cooperate with the investigation on the matter.”

He said another two leaders, vice president Donboklang Kharlyngdoh and assistant general secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit, will also appear before the IO of the case in the coming days.

He said, “The HYC will continue to work for the cause of the indigenous community. Cases registered against us are just part of the journey but we have full faith and confidence that the people of Hynniewtrep are by our side and that we have reasons to fear.”

“We also know that the amount of money generated from the selling and supplying of drugs is huge and we also understand that the people indulged in such illegal activities will do what it takes to get us out of their way. Such an attempt will not stop us from taking up issues concerning the indigenous people. We have decided to continue in our efforts to bring drug users back to the mainstream,” he added.
