HYC urges Govt to maintain strict vigilance at Indo-Bangla Border and interstate movements

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) President Roy Kupar Synrem  on Monday has urged  the Meghalaya Government to keep a strict vigil at the Indo-Bangla Border Villages of the State as well as the interstate movements of people in order to regulate and check entry of people especially of Bangladeshi origin into the State of Meghalaya as a result of the ongoing political instability in the neighbouring Country.

In a press statement, Synrem said, “We are apprehensive that illegal entry may occur from Bangladesh either through our porous borders or through other states sharing an international border with Bangladesh, with individuals taking shelter as political refugees, asylum seekers, or illegal settlers.”

“Therefore, we urge the State government to activate the Directorate of Infiltrations to work round the clock in all strategic locations, coordinate with local authorities to monitor village movements, and direct local police stations to strictly oversee movements within their jurisdictions in collaboration with local authorities,” he added.
