Breaking his silence over the heated argument in the Assembly last week where NCP MLA Saleng A Sangma used unparliamentary words, Opposition Congress legislator from Rangsakona, Zenith Sangma said that the state Assembly is not a place to show how strong or muscular people are.
“As responsible and mature leaders, we should understand our basic responsibilities. The Assembly is not a place where we need to show how strong we are and how muscular we are. It is not the platform to showcase all these…,” Zenith said while reacting to the action of the NCP state president and Gambegre MLA, Saleng A Sangma in the just concluded Assembly’s autumn session.
“Frankly speaking, I don’t really want to speak on this but since you have enquired, let me tell you I was indeed a very shock and it was so painful to see this kind of incident inside of the House,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that the Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh had to expunge the use of unparliamentary words by the Gambegre MLA during a heated argument with Zenith over the law and order situation in the state, from the proceedings of the House.
The Congress leader also reminded that the Assembly is considered to be the temple of democracy.
“It is also a factory which manufactured the laws as we as lawmakers…I think we should put an end to this as our actions should be an example to the youths particularly and to the people of the state in general,” he said.
Asserting that lawmakers cannot be lawbreakers, Zenith however said he is afraid if leaders are demonstrating like this (inside the House) as it will definitely attract the upcoming youths, who are the future leaders of the state.
“So it is a bad example to the youths who are future leaders, their perception will be completely different from the reality, which they are supposed to do and I am afraid it is happening because in social media there are lots of reaction and counter-reaction, people who were supporting this action of Gambegre MLA that means what that means precedence is being created wherein the people are being attracted to this action,” he stated.
