IIT Roorkee has submitted its evaluation report on the proposed expansion of the Riangdo Small Hydro Power Project from 3 MW to 6 MW to the Meghalaya government, Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal informed.
Speaking to the media, Mondal said, “The Riangdo power project, currently under construction with a capacity of 3 MW, is being considered for expansion to 6 MW. So all these relevant factors have been sent to IIT Roorkee for their views and comments and those have come and I am yet to go through it . After checking the report we will take a call and if that can be done nothing like it.”
The project details, including cost estimates, were evaluated by IIT Roorkee in collaboration with NTPC. If the expansion is deemed viable, additional costs will be incurred for components like the penstock, turbine, powerhouse, and transmission infrastructure.
Located in Suanggre Hamegam village, Shahlang, in West Khasi Hills District, the Riangdo Small Hydro Power Project is the first power project in the region and holds potential for further development to meet the growing energy demands of the area.
