Braving harsh weather, the unwavering efforts of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) staff and linemen are to restore power supply in different parts of the state. Inclement weather conditions in the state are affecting the power restoration work .
CMD MeECL Sanjay Goyal told Meghalaya News 24 that with state experiencing the high velocity wind, the trees are uprooted and in most places falls on the electric line, even electric polls are uprooted.
“Manpower of material is not an issue we are getting slightly hampered is the inclement weather not allowing us to work in full capacity,” Goyal said.
Elaborating further he said, “The window period which is available for us to take up the restoration work, if we get clear weather, the productivity and the restoration work are very fast, if we get this kind of inclement weather, it’s difficult to work in the inclement weather.”
“We have experienced almost the cyclonic kind of weather there in Jaintia Hills and also in Shillong we have experienced high velocity wind that has affected the power supply and mainly due to the felling of the trees over line and the electric poles,” he added.
While the staffs and linemen of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) are reaching out to the difficult terrains, full restoration of electricity in the state continues to be challenged amidst the inclement weather.
Goyal said, the electricity has been restored this evening in the major parts of the town areas except for a few pockets in Tura town in which the team has been working.
However, the high velocity of wind often snaps the power supply.
“Major parts of the town areas have been restored except for a few pockets in Tura town in which the team has been working and I hope this weather clears up so that the restoration work does not hamper due to the inclement weather. We hope that we are able to restore it at the earliest,” the MeECL CMD said.
Asked, he said, “Delay is only because it’s difficult when it is raining very heavily and winds are strong. We have to keep in mind the human safety of the staffs and the linemen who are working apart from that there is no delay as I mentioned. As I mentioned that whole day we worked, yesterday also we worked and have been able to restore the major portion of it, Shillong city has almost been restored except for one or two locations where heavy trees have fallen and we are in position to clear all of them. We are on the job.”
Stating that as per the reports of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone Remal has already crossed the state of Meghalaya, he said the present weather may be just the last remnants of it.
