Shillong, 4 October 2024: The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for the ongoing recruitment in the Civil Defence & Home Guards Department in Shillong has been postponed due to inclement weather, as directed by the Government.
Comingone Ymbon, Minister for Civil Defence & Home Guards, inspected the PET venue at the Civil Defence & Home Guards Complex in Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, accompanied by MK Singh, IPS, Commandant General of Home Guards and Civil Defence, Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, CDHG, and senior officers of the Civil Defence and Home Guards Department.
Following the inspection, the minister convened an emergent meeting with Central Recruitment Board of the Department after the inspection and also met the candidates scheduled to participate in the Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) today, before arriving at the decision to postpone the tests in view of the inclement weather and the weather forecast for the coming days.
He stated, “In light of the inclement weather and the forecast for the coming days, we have decided to postpone the tests.”
The PET is being conducted for a total of 445 vacant posts, including 4 posts of Sub-Inspector, 284 posts of Guardsman, 17 posts of Driver, and 140 posts of Non-Combatant Employees (NCE), across two centers in the state: Tura and Shillong. The total number of provisionally accepted candidates for these positions stands at 22,474.
While the PMT and PET began in Tura on 16 September 2024 and concluded on 26 September 2024, the PMT and PET commenced in Shillong at the Civil Defence & Home Guards Complex on 30 September 2024, with the tests scheduled to conclude on 8 October 2024. However, the government has now postponed the PET scheduled for 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th October 2024 until further notice.
The Government has also decided that candidates who qualified in the PMT and participated in the PET on 2nd and 3rd October 2024 will be given another opportunity to participate in the PET due to the adverse weather conditions on those days.
However, “the marks scored in the PET on these two days by such candidates who opt to participate again will be declared null and void,” said Ymbon. The Board will only consider the marks scored in the PET conducted on a fresh date for selection purposes.
