EXCLUSIVE Meghalaya News 24
Good news for the people of Meghalaya as IndiGo Airlines has begun its flight service from Shillong to Silchar and Shillong to Agartala every alternate day and that too at a cheaper rate.
The two IndiGo ATR 72 seated flights from Kolkata will have a stopover at Shillong before proceeding towards their destination.
Shankarappa, officiating Airport Director Shillong said, “Today the flight service has started already and alternate days flights will be available both for Silchar and Agartala. In a week three days flight to Silchar will be there and three days flight to Agartala will be there. The same IndiGo that comes from Kolkata will have a stopover in Shillong before moving to either Silchar or Agartala.”
The duration for flight to Silchar will be 40 minutes as the scheduled departure will be at 10:20 am while the arrival will be at 11 am. Another flight from Silchar will reach Shillong in the afternoon and after stopover will proceed towards Kolkata.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the development on Monday.
“Bright news on #Holi2021 with @IndiGo6E flight commencing its operations from #Shillong to #Silchar. Thank Hon’ble Union Minister of @MoCA_GoI, Sh. @HardeepSPuri Ji for connecting North East closer through the #UDAN Scheme.@sarbanandsonwal@aaishillong@AAIIXSAirport,” Sangma tweeted.
It may be noted that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to upgrade the runways in seven different airports across the country by March 2022, including Umroi Airport.
IndiGo began operations using an ATR-72 from Shillong on 20 July 2019 under the UDAN scheme with a daily flight from Kolkata airport. Earlier, in December Direct flight to Delhi also started, thereby bringing the National capital close to Meghalaya.
