Interview for MTET qualified candidates on Nov 15 to fill up more than 1,200 vacancies in Govt LP schools

Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma informed that the interview for the MTET qualified candidates will be held on November 15 to fill up more than 1,200 vacancies  in the Government Lower primary schools and around 400  in Upper Primary schools.

Speaking to media in Shillong, Sangma said, a delegation of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has submitted a representation to him highlighting non-availability of teachers in the schools of West Khasi Hills.

“We have informed them (HYC) that we have scheduled the interview for the MTET qualified candidates and for the lower primary schools the Interview has been fixed from 15 November and we will try to complete the process will be completed before Christmas,” the Education Minister said.

“Before Christmas i think we will be able to give the appointment to the qualified candidates in the interview,” he added.

Earlier a delegation of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) led by its president Roy Kupar Synrem met Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma and submitted a representation on matters relating to the education sector in West Khasi Hills District.

In their six point representation, the HYC pointed out the issue of non-availability of teachers as per student-teacher ratio has immensely affected the education sector in the whole District.

Synrem said that in West Khasi Hills, there are around 90 government L.P. schools in the district, with student strength of about 50 to 100 or more in each School. In every such school, the government has appointed either 1 or 2 teachers to teach the students, and these teachers have to take classes for students from nursery up to class V.

“We have demanded that immediate recruitment be done, and the minister has assured that from next month it will begin,” said Synrem.

They have also demanded that the existing government school buildings, which are in dilapidated condition, need urgent interventions for repair and other works.

“If left unattended, the majority of these schools will not be able to cater to the students in the coming session. Hence, we urged you to take immediate and urgent steps in this regard,” said Synrem.

The HYC also urges the Minister about the requirement of  furniture and other materials for the majority of the Schools in the District.

“We request you to kindly take necessary steps to provide the required furniture as per the students strength in each class,” the organisation said.

The HYC president said that they have done an inspection and found that in all 30 schools they’ve visited, especially LP schools, students have to sit in a very uncomfortable position as they have to pack themselves into each bench due to the non-availability of proper furniture.

The HYC further pointed out that although the Higher Secondary Sections of Sib Sing Memorial Govt School was opened since the year 1995 in Nongstoin, however the teachers appointed in the Higher Secondary Section for Arts and Science are not as per the requirements.

“The school was inaugurated early this year but has no power supply, water, or other amenities,” The HYC chief said.

No permanent building for the District School Education Officer is also highlighted.
