ISBT Tura remains non functional for over one year

The Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) Tura remained non functional since the advent of the COVID 19 Pandemic.

The Minister incharge of Transport Dasakhiat Lamare  on Wednesday said he has sought a report on the status of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) Tura.

Inaugurated in 2019, by then Home Minister James K Sangma the first ever Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Chasingre in West Garo Hills district has now transformed into Corona Testing centre.

“I have told my officers to prepare a genuine and accurate status on the ISBT Tura, I have taken only over only a week,” Lamare said.

ISBT which was completed in the year 2017 remained un-operational for various reasons and now with the advent of COVID 19, once again the ISBT became non operational.

Meanwhile, soon after taking the charge, the Minister incharge of Transport Dasakhiat Lamare on Wednesday reviewed the status of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawïongrim, Shillong.

Talking to reporters, he said, the ISBT is expected to be operationalised by December.

“Most probably the ISBT will be operational by December because the contractor has already handed over the property to the concerned department but few minor works are left,” he said.

He said that the ISBT has already been handed over to the transport department, but there is still leftover paperwork that needs to be completed with the implementing agency, namely, the Public Works Department (Roads) before it becomes functional.

“Rest is completed so most probably by the end of December we will be able to make it operational,” Lamare added.
