Defending the appointment of MK Chetri as Director (Distribution) MeECL, Power Minister James K Sangma on Tuesday said being the senior most engineer, MK Chetri is fit to be the Director (Distribution) of Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL).
His statement came a day after four pressure groups – FKJGP, KSU, HNYF and RBYF have threatened to resort to agitation in the coming days if the state government further delays to revoke Chetri’s appointment as the Director (Distribution) of MePDCL.
When asked, James K Sangma however clarified that Chetri is the senior most engineer of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) as of now.
“The question of supersession does not arise at all. Being the senior most engineer in the MeECL, it is in the fitness of things that he (Chetri) has been made Director (Distribution) of MePDCL right now,” he said.
According to him, the apprehension of people that he is still a junior engineer is due to lack of information.
On the NGOs demand to cancel the allotment of 56 sub-stations for operation and maintenance by the M/S Broadcasting Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL), the power minister said BECIL is a central government public sector undertaking (PSU) and not some private company as it is being alleged.
