Meghalaya makes strides in Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) implementation with 58.86 per cent completion rate.
According to the JJM Dashboard, East Garo Hills district is the best performing district in terms of the JJM coverage- 78.812 % while the worst performing District is the East Jaintia Hills with 43.94.
The South West Garo Hills reported 77.04 percent of JJM implementation. The performance of East Khasi Hills continues to be dismay according to the JJM Dash board, the east Khasi hills coverage stands at 47.17 %.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya, Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise N Marak said, “As of today it is almost 59 percent now, very close to 4 lakhs connections now. So once we provide 4 lakh water tap connections, we will be crossing 60 percent.”
Admitting that in some of the villages, the department is facing issues with drying of the source of the water, he said the Centre has given a deadline for completion of the project is January 2024.
“However, we are hoping to reach at least 80-90% (by January, next year),” Marak added.
Under the JJM project, the total number of households stands at 6,51,566.
