JNC demands immediate removal of BSF check post at Sonapyrdi in East Jaintia Hills District

SHILLONG, APR 29: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) on Monday demanded from deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong to intervene for the immediate removal of BSF check post at Sonapyrdi in East Jaintia Hills District.

Speaking to media persons, JNC President Sambormi Lyngdoh said that the presence of BSF personnel at Sonapyrdi has created a lot of inconveniences to the common people, especially when BSF personnel on a daily basis conduct random checks on people passing through Sonapyrdi.

“Even in the past, series of harassment incidents have been reported from across public by BSF which has evoked criticism from various bodies, we condemn such behaviour of the BSF and we demanded from deputy chief minister for immediate removal of the check post of BSF from places like Sonapyrdi, Umbluh, Dona etc” said Lyngdoh.

Lyngdoh alleged that the BSF has failed the state in terms of duties assigned to them especially when it comes to protecting the people living on the border from intrusion by Bangladeshi nationals.

“We have seen in the recent killing near Umkiang village where (L) Sylvanus Dhar lost his life, and the recent situation in border areas where Bangladeshi nationals pelt stones towards our Indian people that was circulated in social Media. BSF has also failed to check the illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into the district, drugs smugglings” he alleged.

The JNC had also demanded from the deputy chief minister to direct the BSF to strengthen the anti-infiltration check gate in EIH.
