SHILLONG, JULY 2: The inquiry team headed by joint secretary housing department, LC Marak today began its investigation into the alleged scam in the procurement of corrugated aluminum roofing sheets in the state through the Chief Minister Housing Assistance Programme (CMHAP).
The enquiry team had begun its first inspection at the housing godown of the Community & Rural Development Block (C&RD) located at Langkyrding East Khasi Hills Shillong in the presence of the leaders of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC).
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, HYC president Roykupar Synrem informed that the thickness of the corrugated aluminium roofing sheet ranges from 40-41 mm instead of 45 mm which is the standard set by the department of housing government of Meghalaya.
Synrem said that there are thousands of corrugated aluminium roofing sheets inside the godown but to save time, the inspection was done with only 5 sheets selected randomly from the spot.
“Even with the inspection of just 5 random corrugated aluminium roofing sheets, it was seen that the thickness of the sheets ranged from 40-41 mm instead of the prescribed 45 mm” said Synrem.
