KHADC Polls: Notification on January 27

 

The notification for the elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will be issued on Monday, January 27, 2025, marking the enforcement of the model code of conduct. The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, who is also the Returning Officer for the KHADC elections, announced that polling will take place on February 21, while counting is scheduled for February 24.

“The law and order situation in the district is peaceful, except for one or two pockets, which will be handled accordingly,” she said. She further added, “We have a ceiling of expenditure for the candidates that is ₹12 lakhs, and the security deposit is ₹3,000.”

The Deputy Commissioner also confirmed, “On the 27th, we are going to publish the final electoral roll.” Regarding election preparations, she stated, “Once we commission the EVMs, we will keep them in the strong room at ISBT itself, and from there, the EVMs will be dispatched to different polling stations on the date notified on Monday.”

Notably, she mentioned a shift in the election process venue. “JN Stadium will not be used for any purpose of elections this time; we are shifting to ISBT.”

Providing further clarity, she said, “Right now, we have 15 KHADC constituencies. Nominations will be taken for 10 constituencies in ISBT, three in the DC’s office, and two in Pynursla. However, for counting, everything will be from ISBT.”
