KHNAM State Youth Wing Seeks Clarification on Child’s Death at Nongpoh Civil Hospital

Shillong, Sept 23:The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) State Youth Wing has requested clarification from the authorities at Nongpoh Civil Hospital regarding the tragic death of a child born to a mother inside the hospital’s toilet.

On September 21, the KHNAM, led by Working President Joseph H. Pyngrope, met with the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, as well as the grieving mother and her husband. Following the meeting, Pyngrope expressed disappointment, noting that the Medical Superintendent was unable to provide answers and instead asked to return after further information had been collected.

Pyngrope condemned allegations that the mother had to wait for two hours outside the hospital gate before receiving care, stating there were claims of inadequate staffing. He questioned the operational status of the First Referral Unit (FRU) and Antenatal Care services at the government hospital, emphasizing that if these services were indeed functioning, there should be no reason for a patient to face such delays in receiving medical attention.
