KSU urges Govt to ensure transparency in allotment of MBBS seats

SHILLONG, JULY 2: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Tuesday urged the state government to ensure transparency in the allotment of MBBS seats in various medical institutions under the State quota.

KSU education secretary Pynkmenlang Sanmiet said,“We have submitted a memorandum to the health minister Dr Ampareen Mazel Lyngdoh requesting the department to clarify as to the number of seats available in various medical institutions under the State quota,”

“At the same time, we also urge the department to ensure transparency in the allotment of MBBS seats,” he said.

Sanmiet also suggested the need to include eligible Khasi or Garo students in the open category to pave way for others from the reserved categories to get included under the State quota.

“It is also suggested that if there are students, who have cleared the NEET exams and who are eligible for All India Quota, such students should be allowed so that other students can get opportunity to take up MBBS courses,” he added.

The KSU leader urged the traditional institutions to refrain from issuing residential certificates to non-residents of the state as this will only affect the interest of the students from Khasi-Jaintia Hills, who are aspiring to take up MBBS courses.

“We also urge the government not to keep a check on such issues to ensure the people from outside do not get included in the list of MBBS seats under the State quota,” he added.
