KSU urges NIOS to set up examination and study centre in East Jaintia Hills District

The Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Tuesday urged the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) to set up an examination and study centre in East Jaintia Hills District.

In a letter to the NIOS regional director, KSU-EJHDU education secretary Emmon Chyrmang said, “We kindly request you to start an examination and study centre within the East Jaintia Hills District.”

He also expressed confidence that with the combined efforts of the NIOS, local community and the union, they can significantly enhance the educational opportunities and promote lifelong learning in the district.

“This initiative has the potential to uplift numerous students who are currently deprived of quality education and empower them to achieve their fullest potential,” he added.

Requesting the NIOS to organize an enrolment drive and awareness program in the district, Chyrmang said the NIOS can play a pivotal role in bridging this educational gap.

“It is evident that the NIOS, with its flexible and inclusive approach to education, can greatly benefit the students of our district,” he said. He said that East Jaintia Hills District has been grappling with various challenges in terms of education, particularly for students who are unable to attend traditional brick-and-mortar schools.

“By providing an alternative mode of education, NIOS can reach out to students who are unable to attend regular schools due to diverse reasons such as distance, economic constraints, learning disabilities, or personal circumstances,” he said. According to him, the awareness about such opportunities needs to be enhanced within the district.
