Labang Nongpyllut Pangam Raliang Area Committee submits memorandum to CM

SHILLONG, SEP 5:  The Labang Nongpyllut Pangam Raliang Area Committee (LNPRAC) today submitted a memorandum to chief minister Conrad K Sangma highlighting the plights of the residents of Labang Nongphyllut, otherwise known as Block I.

In the memorandum, the LNPRAC alleged that the inhabitants of Labang Nonphyllut Doloiship have been left in abandonment by the government since the year, 1951.

“While Meghalaya was celebrating the statehood since 1972, the inhabitants of Labang Nonphyllut Doloiship were subjected to misery, sorrow and hardships. The identity of the inhabitants have been arbitrarily snapped away by the government whereupon the essence of tradition and custom was clipped away by the derecognization of Labang Nongphyllut as a Doloiship and the inaction and subservient attitude of the government has deprived the citizens of their identity, their ancient hereditary land, customs and lineage.” said the memorandum.

The memorandum stated the Government of Assam has notified the boundaries of Mikkir Hills Autonomous District Council in 1951 by including Labang Nongphyllut in its boundaries which was followed with onslaught of human rights violation including rape, murder pillaging of households, discrimination, and degradation of society, arbitrary arrests and detention.

The association applauds the lackluster and whimsical efforts on the part of the state government with the on-going border talks to rectify and solve the border issue, however we urge the state government to immediately formed JAC which comprise members from the central government, Meghalaya government and the Assam government.

‘The JAC should look into the welfare, of the people of Labang Nongphyllut in particular and both state government should not oppose each other in terms of the development, welfare, upliftment and security of the people of Labang Nongphyllut” said the memorandum.
