Shillong, Sep 9 – Reports of irregularities in the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Meghalaya, especially in the Garo Hills region, have prompted Meghalaya TMC leader and Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma, to plan a visit to the affected areas for a firsthand assessment.
“We should ourselves be the first independent probing agency. I will be visiting these areas soon (to gather firsthand information),” Dr. Sangma announced adding, “The data is available online, let us go and see on the ground, I will be embarking upon this journey very soon.”
Concerns have been raised by several villagers in the Garo Hills about non-functional water supply pipes, poor-quality materials, and projects being declared complete despite unfinished work.
In response to these allegations, the State government has rejected claims of serious irregularities, maintaining that the implementation of the JJM in the state is proceeding as planned.
