Minister in Charge of Power, Government of Meghalaya, AT Mondal on Friday said the lifting of the Umiam Bridge will be done within 15th of March.
Talking to mediapersons, Mondal said the exact date for lowering of the bridge cannot be said as this will be done only after completion of the work; however, the status will be appraised to the state cabinet as well.
“This will be happening in the month of March… I am thinking that within 15th March we will be able to do the lifting of the bridge,” the Power Minister said.
The minister also informed that there will be total shutdown on movement of vehicles on that day.
Mondal said, “On the day of lifting the bridge the traffic movement will be stopped for 4-8 hours on the day the vehicular movement of the bridge will be closed down and after which they will install ramp on both sides and only light motor vehicles and ambulances would be allowed to ply on the bridge for some time.”
There will be complete closure of heavy vehicles.
He said the department will be sitting with the Technical committee as well as coordination committee comprising MeECL, PWD, Transport department, district administrations (of East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi).
