All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Chairperson and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said TMC is not a party of West Bengal or the Bengalis as she fired salvos at the Bharatiya Janata Party for religious aggression although the party is a minor partner in the ruling coalition headed by the National People’s Party (NPP).
Banerjee while silencing her critics said, Mother Teresa was from Kolkata, Rabindranath Tagore is from Bengal, Netaji Subhash Candra Bose was a Bengali but their identity was not merely Bengali. She said “Jai Hind” was Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s slogan and that Mother Teresa had received the Nobel Peace Prize from Kolkata.
“Rumour is being spread that TMC is a Bengali party. Bankim Chandra Chatterjee composed our national song, Vande Mataram. The entire nation sings Vande Mataram. Rabindranath Tagore wrote our national anthem and visited Shillong several times and stayed here, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose fought for the Independence of the nation, and Mother Teressa won the Nobel Peace Prize from Kolkata. Can we say they all were just Bengalis? The All India Trinamool Congress works for the entire country. I am a Bengali but I was railway Minister twice and worked for the entire country,” Mamta told her party workers inside the auditorium here. Assembly elections in Meghalaya are slated for early next year.
“Why do we divide people based on caste, language and religion? Please vote for TMC and let’s all work together for a better Meghalaya,” Mamata said
Attacking the BJP, She alleged that the saffron party is torturing tribal people throughout the country. The TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee said a special social security scheme will be announced by the party soon.
“How they (BJP) tortured tribal people in UP, how they tortured tribal people throughout the country, that’s why our ideology and programme our social security programme we will announce when the election is announced,” Banerjee said.

Accusing BJP in Assam for encroaching Meghalaya’s land, Banerjee while referring to Mukroh firing asked if anybody arrested? She said the saffron party has only one political vendetta to snatch away the rights of the people.
“They don’t have any agenda, except the political vendetta to snatch away the rights of Meghalaya, you tell me why when they have take so much land from Meghalaya they did not ask the people of Meghalaya ? What was the need for firing killing five six people?… anybody arrested? They criticise other people,” Banerjee said.
“BJP sometimes say it is Assam model of development and sometime Gujarat model of development , they never speaks up when people are in danger, when people are in distress, they have totally failed, only during the time of election they come distribute money,” the TMC chairperson alleged.
