Man arrested for pelting stones at Ampareen’s residence

A 46-year-old man was arrested for pelting stones at the residence of cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh at Laitumkhrah on Tuesday night.

 

Speaking to reporters, SP of East Khasi Hills Sylvester Nongtnger said, “The accused is from Malki. We are still interrogating him if there are other people involved in the act.”

 

He said the accused has consumed alcohol and police will examine whether he is mentally stable.

 

The SP informed that four stones were pelted at the minister’s house and accused person was also carrying a dao before he was overpowered by the family members of the minister.

 

Earlier, Lyngdoh’s husband and KHADC executive member Fantin Joseph Lakadong informed that they were sitting at home when they suddenly heard stones being pelted at their house.

 

“We could manage to catch the culprit after checking the CCTV footage and identify the clothes he was wearing. We immediately snatch away the dao from his hand. The accused was also shouting he wanted to kill someone,” he said.
