Massive crackdown on drug trafficking in Meghalaya; several nabbed

Declaring Drug menace a serious threat to the State, Meghalaya Government on Friday pledged to fight this menace on a war-footing to combat drug trafficking in all forms.

Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, the MDA government spokesperson and cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the seizures from contraband have gone up to 71 crores .

“We are now going to take the Drug menace as a serious threat to the state and we will go all out on a war footing to combat drug trafficking in all forms. The seizures from contraband have gone up to 71 crore as we speak,” Lyngdoh said.

He informed that police are on high alert to go all out against drug traffickers.

The Minister assures that there will be no compromise when it comes to raids, seizures, checking of illicit drugs of any variety.

It may be mentioned that the Anti Narcotics Task Force of the East Khasi Hills police on Thursday seized contraband items and apprehended 6 persons involved in drug peddling. Based on credible inputs, the raid was made at Lower Lachumiere Shillong. During the raid, items such as 5 soap cases of heroin weighing 77.02 gms, 19 vials of heroin weighing 1.71gms, Two bikes, One Scooty and 6 Mobile phones, apart from Cash Rs 1,26,500/- were seized. Police said the total quantity of HEROIN seized during the raid was 78.73gm.

Meanwhile, in its war against drugs, East Jaintia Hills police nabbed five traffickers and seized Heroin worth ₹28 Lakh, Cannabis worth₹48 Lakh, and two vehicles were also seized.

From Bajengdoba, the North Garo Hills Police nabbed 4 astute drug traffickers at Kimbaldam, Bajengdoba PS and  seized 26 gms of Heroin,1 Alto car,₹6K cash and two phones.
