Chairman of Meghalaya State Health advisory Board, and Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem on Friday informed that he will take all the legislators from the aspirational district Ri Bhoi into board and appeal to the Government to pursue the Niti Ayog for setting up a medical college.
Ri-Bhoi is regarded as an aspirational district since 2018 with special focus on the two parameters, viz. education and health.
Speaking to reporters, Syiem said, “Ri Bhoi being an aspirational district that it is eligible of one medical college. So now we will take up this issue, I am very much sure with the present MDA 2 Government which has stressed much on the health department.”
Chairman of Meghalaya State Health advisory Board further said, “We hope from my end also as a legislator from Ri Bhoi taking on board all the legislator from Ri Bhoi we will strike ahead so that we will pursue Niti Ayog through the state of Meghalaya through the Government of Meghalaya, through the planning department.”
“The Health Minister, and the Chief Minister I hope they will listen to our prayers that they will send a proposal to the central Government to have medical college apart from Tura and Shillong, in Ri Bhoi also Medical college being an aspirational district there is a scope for that,” the UDP legislator said.
He also informed that under the present MDA 2 Government, things will take shape positively.
While the Tura Medical College has begun to take shape, the Shillong Medical College has not yet seen the light of day.
On Medicines in various health care sectors, he said it will be an endeavour of the Government to serve the people especially in the health sector.
“ Shortage of medicine, of man power it is there within our state. As per data in place also we have seen lack of specialist, lack of doctors, lack of staff nurses, lack of medicine, these are concern that the Government is also serious and now I hope that as a chairman of the Meghalaya State Health Advisory Board we will try to find out ways and means with the honourable minister will work together to see and address this issue,” Syiem said.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya government in partnership with startup TechEagle has unveiled Asia’s first drone delivery hub and network which is aimed at providing universal access to healthcare for the people in the state.
The project is aimed at delivering vital supplies like drugs, diagnostic samples, vaccines, blood and blood components quickly and safely to different regions of the state using a dedicated drone delivery network, it said.
