Rishab Purkayastha from Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School bagged first positions in commerce in HSSLC examination.  He dreams of becoming an investment banker.

With much difficulty, Rishab’s father who owns a small ‘Pan Shop’ at Jail road Bazaar runs his family, but this has not restricted a father’s care and attention for his only son.

Expressing his gratitude towards his parents, Rishab said, “If I can bring a smile to their face that will be the biggest achievement of my life.”

Narrating his parents struggling, Purkayastha’s only son said, “My parents really worked hard for me, my father is a pan vendor, he works in a small shop and mother she works in a parlour as a daily wage earner, seeing them struggle, seeing them work hard, even I thought that, it’s my responsibility and my duty that even I should do something for them.”

Talking about his future plan, the commerce topper said, “I m planning to pursue Bcom in accounting and finance from Anthony’s and after that I will dream of becoming an investment banker.”

While many complain about the online system of learning, this commerce topper revealed that beside the constant motivation and hard work of school teachers, the secret to his success was increasing his knowledge base through YouTube.

“…with the coming of Artificial Intelligence technology, it is very important that we must utilize these resources to go higher than what we thought we can do,” he said adding, “I think the interest is the very big source of Knowledge and we need to dive into it so that we can gain that knowledge.”

Rishab’s father Biplab Purkayastha is elated after the success but abit worried about his future.

“I have a small pan shop, I am so happy but I don’t know how to express… my son will know how to pursue what to pursue, his mother had worked harder for him to succeed … I am also worried about what he will do in future,” Purkayastha said.

Similar experience was shared by Akshat Das, ranked 4th holder in the class 12 commerce examination of MBose.

“My father is a daily wage earner and my mother runs a fast food shop. He works in SBI canteen, despite all the hardship in life they gave me best,” Akshat said.

He will be pursuing BCOM, with accountancy honours and then continue with CS later.

Giving credit to Teachers and parents for his success, Das said, “ I was an average guy from the beginning, so the teachers motivated me that you can do it, they encouraged me and that’s how I thought I could do it.”

He also supports the idea of studying from youtube as an extra measure for securing success. “I had two tusions, one for maths and one for accounts and ECO and above all youtube helped me a lot. The growth of social media is also helping the younger generation because youtube helped me solve problems at midnight as well,” he added.
