SHILLONG, AUG 9: The Meghalaya state cabinet has approved an amendment to the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) Regulation for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination, 2011, introducing significant changes to the examination schedule starting from the 2025 academic year.
Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma announced that MBOSE will conduct two board examinations annually beginning from 2025.
Talking to Mediaperson, the Education Minister said, “The first board examination will be held in the month of February or early of March and the second examination is for those, who failed in all subjects or one or two-three subjects. They will be allowed to reappear for the board exam within one-two months’ time meaning within the month of May.”
“This has been done to support the students because now supplementary examination used to be held after a gap of one year but now the supplementary examination will be held within the same academic year to save the one year lost to the class X students,” the minister added.
Rakkam informed, “In order to save the time for students’ admission in the years to come may be in 2025-2026 academic year, the first board exam will happen in the month of December itself, may be the third week or fourth week of December 2025. The second board exams will be on February or March, 2026 but for this academic year within February and May we will have two board examinations.”
In addition, Minister Rakkam informed that starting from the 2026-2027 academic year, there will no longer be an optional paper or the “best of five” system in the SSLC examinations. These changes are part of the government’s efforts to streamline the examination process and improve the academic experience for students in Meghalaya.
